About The Taste Of A Place

Chakula Press is tiny publishers with the big idea that people can do their bit for sustainable tourism by eating and drinking local food and wine. Of course, locally sourced food isn't enough: its got to taste great and folk need have fun at the same time. That's how the series The Taste of a Place came into being: we want people to have their cake and eat it too, so to speak. Thus our aim is to produce high quality books that are beautiful, practical and entertaining.
There are currently two directors. Vicky Bennison, a food writer who is author of our books published so far, and Keith Richards.
Vicky Bennison spent the 1990s working as an international development consultant in Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Romania, Siberia, Kenya, Pakistan and South Africa. It was during these travels that Vicky first started writing about her - sometimes extraordinary - experiences; mushroom hunting with the Russian mafia and cooking zebra stew in near Lake Turkana in Kenya are just two examples. In addition to Chakula Press, she also writes features for a number of specialist travel magazines.
Keith Richards is also Head of Consumer Affairs at ABTA. He trained as a barrister and in his spare time, besides being a director of Chakula Press, he is a freelance travel journalist.
